Behind the researchWith rapidly increasing health care spending within our country’s health care system, all aspects of care delivery are under scrutiny. Although the U.S., as a nation, spends the most in health care, health outcomes are often not aligned with the amount of spending incurred by the health care system.
In recent years, there has been a move to reform the existing health care finance structure. Instead of a historic fee-for-service model, there has been a move toward a value-based system. In comparison to a fee-based system focused on volume and cost containment, the value-based system is more focused on the quality of care delivered as a relationship of costs to care.
Dr. Hsu’s research targets how health care dollars and resources are utilized in comparison to health outcomes. He challenges established thinking and assumptions of health care value.
