Pig models for Ataxia telangiectasia and Batten disease

We are currently working on developing and characterizing pig models for neurological diseases such as Ataxia telangiectasia and juvenile CLN3 (Batten) disease. The current mouse models for the above diseases do not fully recapitulate the fundamental neurological features of the human diseases. Doing research on large animal models of neurological pathologies is rewarding because the discoveries can be directly translated to patients. We hope that through this research we can easily elucidate the underling mechanism of Batten disease and contribute to generate therapeutic protocols to halt or reverse the pathological condition.
