Sanford Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) and National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF REU) Site in Cell and Molecular Biology
The SPUR and NSF REU Site provide an opportunity for undergraduates to participate in laboratory research and career preparation workshops. This 10-week summer program enables students to obtain research experience and prepare them for a scientific career. Research opportunities are also available during the academic year.
Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE)
The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) offers undergraduate students the opportunity to obtain hands-on social/behavioral research experience in American Indian community-based projects in Mission, Pine Ridge, Rapid City or Sioux Falls, SD. Students will gain knowledge about research design and implementation, data collection and American Indian health disparities. Students who are underrepresented in science are encouraged to apply (underrepresented includes ethnic minority students, first generation college students, students from lower income or rural backgrounds).
Research Shadowing Program
The Sanford PROMISE Research Shadowing Program is designed to allow high school and college students (16 years of age and older) the opportunity to explore career options that exist within research. Students will spend time with research staff during part of their routine day in one of our biomedical research laboratories located in Sioux Falls, SD. After shadowing within our research environment, students should have an appreciation for some of the qualities required for a career in science and research. This is not a training program; the goal is for the student to experience the workplace setting as well as the duties performed by research staff in our biomedical research lab.
