October 2017 Dr. Alexei Savinov co-authored a research article published in PLoS One investigating calcification and lipid deposition in novel mouse models of coronary atherosclerosis. "Overexpression of tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP) in endothelial cells accelerates coronary artery disease in a mouse model familial hypercholesterolemia."
October 2017 Dr. Alexei Savinov published a research article in Molecular Therapy demonstrating the therapeutic efficacy of a novel fusion protein with autoimmunity-preventing and insulin production-restoring properties in type 1 diabetes. "Self-transducible bimodal PDX1-FOXP3 protein lifts insulin secretion and curbs autoimmunity, boosting Tregs in type 1 diabetic mice."
October 2017 Drs. Alexei Savinov and Kurt Griffin received a research grant for $40,000 from the Sanford Health Foundation for their project titled "Chimeric T regulatory cells for type 1 diabetes treatment."

David Pearce, Jill Weimer, and Attila Kovacs published in Biochimica et Biphysica Acta investigating systemic effects such as infertility and immune dysfunction due to ataxia telangiectasia using a novel porcine model. July 2017 Dr. Alexei Savinov's laboratory presented current research findings at the annual meeting of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry in San Diego, CA. This work demonstrates that T-cell mediated autoimmunity in diabetes may be modulated by VISTA. "Investigating the regulatory role of a negative checkpoint molecule, VISTA in endothelial cells."
May 2017 Dr. Alexei Savinov gave a research presentation while attending a meeting in Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in NY discussing Fundamental Immunology and its therapeutic potential. The goal of the meeting is to enhance fundamental immunology research while speeding the translation of clinic discoveries. Dr. Savinov discussed findings in his laboratory on the immunomodulatory T regulatory-inducing properties of individual VTCN1 domains.
