Kristi Egland, PhD Principle Investigator

Dr. Kristi Egland attended college at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and got her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at the University of Iowa in 2000. She continued her training as a post-doctoral fellow at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD where she developed a molecular approach to discover new genes encoding proteins that could be used either to diagnose breast cancer or as a target for therapy. In 2004, she moved to Sioux Falls, SD where she is an Associate Scientist at the Cancer Biology Research Center, Sanford Research/USD and Assistant Professor in the Department of OB/GYN at Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota. Her husband, Paul, is a professor in the Biology Department at Augustana College, and they live in Sioux Falls with their two children.

  

 

 

 

 

Rick Evans, Lab manager
Rick is married and has two children. He has worked in the Egland lab for five years.  He got his B.A. from the University of South Dakota.  His favorite assay to perform is the ELISA.  He loves sports and roots the Twins and Vikings.  He is always up for a good game of beanbags or kickball.

Allison Watson, MD/PhD student
Allison received her B.A. from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD.  She is married and has completed her first two years of medical school.  She is currently working on her dissertation research in the Egland lab.  Her favorite instrument in the lab is the flow cytometer.

Liz Davis, MD/PhD student
Liz graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD.  She has finished her second year of medical school and is starting her thesis project in the Egland lab.  She is our office supply queen.

Ashley Weber, Undergraduate Research Assistant
Ashley will graduate in May 2012 from Augustana College with a B.A. in biology.  Ashley has worked in the Egland lab for the past two summers, and she was awarded 2nd place for her research poster presentation at the 2nd Annual Student Research Poster Symposium at Sanford Research/USD.  Ashley spent the 2011 spring semester in Spain as a college exchange student.

Brennan Olson, Undergraduate Summer Sanford Live Learn Intern
Brennan is a junior at Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD.  He plays basketball for the Augustana Vikings.  He is from Luck, WI, and he mastered the art of using ELISA to detect cancer proteins in the blood of breast cancer patients.

Elizabeth Haller, Undergraduate Research Assistant
Elizabeth has worked with our lab for the last four summers.  She graduated from St. Olaf College in the spring of 2011, and she was accepted into Mayo Medical School in Rochester, MN.  She is now married and is a first year medical student.

Sue Morarie, SDSU Gradulate Student
Sue has been collaborating with the Egland lab on experiments to complete her thesis research.  She will received her PhD from South Dakota State University within the next year.
